coffee and cakes, roger? why yes, gertrude, i don't mind if i do.

Why do I keep blogging in the mornings? I feel I am cheating you, souls, by writing in my morning way…stay tuned for a salacious, soul-filled blog, written in the wee hours of the morn.

I think my deterrent (and he will hate this and demand we move it right now if it keeps me from writing), is that my dear soul is sleeping in the room where my computer now resides. Last night, instead of doing the bills as I should have, I decided to let joelio sleep instead – and used his laptop to dink around until much too late. I supposed I could have blogged then, but his computer just isn’t my home.

A few points of note this overcast day.
  • I sited another “comfortable wardrobe” moment this morning in the elevator. Excusing the fashion faux-paux of the moment, this kind gentleman adorned slacks, polo, and comfy sneakers. Because I tend to hate just about everything in the morning, I hated him for his comfortable feet. Now, with some coffee giving me a bit of perspective, I realize I love his feet. He made me realize that I was not miserable in my boots, but was actually enjoying the comfy cushion of joel’s new socks (shhh. i am gonna be in soo much trouble). So even if my only requirement for a new job is to wear some soul-giving raiment, I can find small elements of comfort in my current situation. And let’s face the music, dearies…we all needs these tidbits of comfort to have the courage to face our existential dilemmas.

  • It was free coffee Wednesday at the Sbucks in my building. I have three to choose from, so the one closest to my office was granted my business. Yes, for some reason I received a free coffee card to try their new roast every Wednesday. I feel this roast to be inferior to any African or Ethiopian bean, but I will drink just about anything if it’s free. And free is what I am all about these days.

  • I am looking forward to my co-workers birthday. I get just the smallest, cutest sliver of coconut cake from mecrina bakery. This bakery is just the bee’s knees, my confidants. You really must love it so. do make a point to visit in on your next trip to god's city.

  • I am overwhelmed of late with my dear friends and their struggle with moneys. I don’t know if you realize, but I have seriously the kind of friends that people write home about. These people are healthy, whole (or on their way), and live their lives with gustos of courage. But I see them making sacrifices and hurting because this society has no tolerance for soulfull careers. This angers me, my comrades. Some must be destitute and some must not attend to their futures, and I hate it friends. I just want to spit. What can be done…I wish to provide a new world; yes, a brave new world where we can soma.

EEEKKKS. Put everything sad on hold. A man JUST walked in with a pink bakery box! I do believe that a coconut cake resides inside. My coworker just said the most poignant thing I will hear all day.

“Pink bakery boxes always make me happy.”

I am going to sneak a picture of it.

I am so covert in my cajolery. I sneaked my camera into my pocket and then went to the kitchen.

I was also very naughty and took the sticker off to get a picture of the insides. And I am once again reminded of why i always carry my camera in my purse. which is why i need a big purse!

Happy Pink Box Wednesday; your eyes are sugary sweet to me.

feeling goooooglely

You might want to rethink your job when your only desire for a new job is to be able to wear jeans to work.

lemme splain.

This morning, all bleary-eyed and caffeine deprived, I walked up to the corner of 5th and Pike and was distracted from my usual scoffing directed at the (I’m 25 but dress like a 50-year old)Banana Republic display by this wonderful pair of jeans. I didn’t even notice the woman who adorned these fabulous jeans, and they were not anything impressive in and of themselves. But oh how I stared and longed and lusted for a job where I could feel the comfort of a well-fitted jean on my waist.

Clothes make me freaking cranky sometimes. Today I am in one of my favorite army-green, tulip-cut skirts, but I feel just accosted by it. Perhaps I have a mild form of sensory integration disorder, but clothes just never stay put and this constant shuffling and fixing and primping and fussing makes me crave a good scream and more leisurely uniform. And don't misunderstand, I love me some skirts and great slacks and heels, but golly - they can tire a gal out.

So then I log into my computer and go to the seattletimes.org. One of the first articles I read is about google opening more and more new offices – and I don’t know if you know it, but basically, to work for google is to work for jesus. If you want to nap, you can nap – and they provide a napping room. If you want to play foosball or video games, you can, and you guessed it, they provide it. The perks and atmosphere of that place sounds so delicious to my soul (hello, office PET!!); if you relax and take care of yourself, embracing the natural rhythm of your body (sleepy at 3pm, etc), your work will be much more productive.

And let’s face it. You know you are just dinking around on your computer from 3pm-5pm anyway, so may as well actually embrace it.

They call it feeling googly.

So after the jeans site-ing, I realized that my only real standard in this soulless career of office administration work is to find a job where I can wear whatever the frack* I want to.

This is a low standard. This is my point.

Also, maybe I should apply at google.

In other news, my house is feeling slightly more at home because of the following:
  1. I have cooked a meal in my kitchen (BY MYSELF – well, jess helped me refrain from adding an entire can of chipotle peppers to my sauce (i thought it called for a can, turns out it was a teaspoon - yes, i know, they are very close)
  2. Ben and Jess have graced it with meaningful conversation, lounging, and some great old stories. Never underestimate the power of really old friends to help oneself re orientate
  3. My family came and saw it (some of them) and approved of my new european lifestyle - and
then we walked to get coffee which was delicious and very fun. on the way back, we had a nature walk where mom and dad taught me some names of flowers and foliage
  4. I have found an answer to a design dilemma that was frustrating me. my picture frames cover every open inch of surface in our house, and i really want to have it look less cluttery. so i have decided to give them a concentrated home on three bookshelf ledges (soon to be purchased), and then will get all color-same frames. this way my pictures (which i believe bring a deep amount of soul into my home) will have a home - and a proud and prominent one at that.

These things are very important, ma’am. Don’t even think about trying to build a home without them.

I have been on a picture hiatus lately, probably because this apartment is sapping lots of my creative energy and i am still working on where my creative space will be.

Also I have learned a couple of new words. Necromancer, Stymied. Necromancer is so great to say, but doesn’t mean anything really useful to everyday speech. A necromancer is one who can conjure the dead. *

Stymied is a word I found on the newspaper today (thank god for journalists who still realize that people should still be exposed to words longer than five letters) and it means thwarted or a situation that is mystifying…puzzling.

I love me some wordlings.

Happy Tuesday, most beautiful creations, and it’s happy because candace gets a massage tonight…yay for insurance.

*trivia of the day.

1- This slang is taken from what sci-fi show?
2- Why did I italicize those words?

semblances of a past home

i won't lie to you. this has been one of the strangest transitions of my married life.

i was very happy to get to unpacking this apartment, but when the time came, i realized that i was under prepared for the creativity it would require to fit into a smaller place. we left behind a LOT of storage and furniture that used to house things, so it was surprising to attempt to find a new home for things and realize that fitting into this place is a complicated mathematical equation.

last night was shot. i was in pain (red zone backaches), melancholy, and easily upset.

this am was shot. i was all of the above, only groggy from not enough sleep. and i had a second alone in the place to get my bearings, and dears - i felt oh so sad. i had no orientation and no comfort for my loss.

but then some energy shifted.

joel found some free stuff on craigslist that is fitting perfectly for our purposes, mainly a small desk. the girl was really amazingly nice...and then we were able to help someone who requested a ton of moving boxes, so we felt like a happy recipient of our cyber benefactress, aka craigslist.

then i went to the library, grabbed some movies i had on hold and also a much needed espresso. after i returned, i felt renewed and finally able to see past the fear that deep down, we would not fit here.

but as the carpet clears, our things find their own space, and dear god...our home is refilled with those things that feed our souls (are your ears burning, my preciosa booklings? i really did spent at least two hours organizing you, and you gave me more than i can express.)

it is with a great sigh of relief and some ambient music that i find some recentering.

hello new apartment. my name is candace. it's nice to finally meet you.

just believe. just breath.

here i am.

in my new home.

surrounded by boxes and furniture, both of which are mimicking my soul's cry.

find

a

place.

yet, i cannot find it. i cannot locate the place inside that feels entirely motivated to nest. where did you go, wee child?

i praise god for words sometimes. they seem to be my only form of most authentic therapy.

happy slightly buzzed, melancholic friday eve - lovely lovely eyes.
