Sometimes Friday night...

is not very glamorous.  Sometimes it's wearing dirty jeans.  Sometimes it's eating chips because you have no idea what to cook for dinner and sometimes its drinking water because you have just enough red wine for one glass later tonight.  Sometimes it's no sound save the sweet lull of the faintest rain.  Sometimes it's perusing through your friend's flickr photos.

Sometimes it's a sore throat and sad eyes and perpetual waiting.

It's a moment.  And it's all mine.

purple - it's what's for dinner

Last night, as I chopped up all the necessaries for tacos, I was struck anew by the gorgeous depth of purple in the cabbage.

I feel extremely thankful that we get to eat food saturated in color.

I can feel it radiating through my eyes today.

Cheers Chickens,

May my domestic neglect lighten your load this Monday and help you forgive yourself for your imperfect house.
Amen.

i realize that title sounds all kinds of wrong for a monday morning.

This is my confession:
My husband terms this my "morning explosion."  I am really rather organized, but I cannot seem to stay that way daily.  Every Sunday, I arrange my closet, but this was what it looked like last night when I came home from work.  I chuckled to myself, took a picture, and quickly put them all away neatly.

Our flickr group is alive and well.  Take a

In other news, I am completely laid low with some sort of atrocious neck strain.  Vicodin and ice packs have been my life the last 24 hours and I hope to be back to normal soon.  The saddest part was forgoing our Thursday night rollerskating.
Sigh.

these december nights

This is what my evenings have looked like this month.
(But you already know this if you follow the flickr photo group)
Frankly, I'm surprised I even have the energy to snap a photo, but I'm often reminded how making art feeds me - even if it does feel like something else on my insane "to do" list.

We are halfway through the month.
Perseverance and Perspective is the name of my December game.
That, and brandy-spiked eggnog dusted with nutmeg...light on the eggnog.

hot town...summer in the country

Well, finally. Sheesh Seattle, way to string us along this year.
June was very cold and very rainy...and the first week of July portended similarly.

But it turns out that the rest of July is looking quite HOT.
There are a few things this arrival of summer means.
[one]
the long dreaded fashioning my favorite jeans into shorts
(five years is quite some go!)

[two]
iced coffee

[three]
although it's only 80-85 degrees outside, my poorly insulated residence will register in the upper 90s.
for some reason, Seattle was poorly planned in two areas:
a) public transit
b) no A/C in houses
it's just completely asinine.

[four]
shaving my legs
please do not cringe, but i rarely need shave due to the most fine blonde hair a girl could grow on her legs

[five]
scouring my pocketbook to afford an outdoor fire pit

[six]
if i were still residing in the city, Thomas Street Park would be covered in bikinis.
promptly 6 hours later, Broadway would be covered in sundresses and abused skin

[seven]
my birthday
(have i mentioned it already?)

p.s.

We've started off just swimmingly with 14 members and  quite a few uploads already!  Feel free to wander over and comment even if you haven't committed to joining!  Looking forward to more of your home!

It's that time of year again...Photo Collaborations

No, not JUST my birthday month (see sidebar for  my wish lists), but I've been all kinds of itchy to start yet another Flickr photo collaboration (we've done it before, and again here, and here).

One theme has been reemerging in my life over and over,
and so I think it's time to treat it right and give it some air time.
HOME.
hard to know what it is
if you've never had one.
i can't say where it is
but i know i'm going
home.
( U2 )

I have such an amazing blogging community and I've had dreams about meeting you all, taking you into my home, mixing you a beverage, and gabbing with you until we know each other as well as our blogs do.  since this not a practical possibility, perhaps we can invite each other into our homes via our cameras.

now this is not just for photographers or people who blog.
just snap a picture,
upload it here,
look at other people's uploads,
comment on them,
and find great pleasure in artistic and meaningful collective.

it's truly that simple.

now i know there are a SLEW of you who've quietly stalked these picture groups,
but never felt you could participate because of time, technology, or temper.
but i assure you,
there are no requirements, no deadlines, no expectation.
you have to have or create a flickr account,
but you don't even have to reveal yourself as you if you don't wish.

i'll be posting roughly one picture per day
(hell, who am i kidding, probably more)
but YOU can do whatever YOU want.

i want it be a time of soulful reflection.
truly, what does HOME mean to you?

Emily Dickinson says, "Where thou art - that is home."
It is my personal quest to try and find what it is about my home and hearth that makes me me.
Is it really the externals?
My favorite mug, my ability to stay in PJs all day, my fuzzy kitty?
Or is it ME?
Can I create a home wherever I land?
And if I can't, what does that mean?

Of course, your quest need not be so existential.

There is nothing like staying home for real comfort.
( Jane Austen )

Who is with me?
Go HERE.
The group is called "In Search of Home."
JOIN me for the month of July.
It could be a birthday present to yours truly.
